Wii2 Rumors Pricing and Specs

New rumors have just surfaced concerning Project Café, the codename for the Wii’s successor console.  According to IGN, their inside sources are claiming the following:

    * The price of Project Café will be between $350 and $400 USD.
    * Shipping on the device will begin this October for a retail release of October/November and be coming from Foxconn, a Taiwanese manufacturer.
    * An early 2012 release is also possible if Nintendo wants to stockpile some product before release.
    * The hardware will be based on a “revamped” version of AMD’s R700 GPU architecture. (This would be more powerful than a PS3.)
    * CPU will be a custom-built triple-core IBM PowerPC chipset with faster clocking speeds.
    * 1080p output.
    * Stereoscopic 3D possible.
    * Size of the console will be close to the original XBox 360.
    * The system will likely resemble a modern day SNES.
    * The controllers will have built in touch screens with the ability for games to stream directly to the controller.
    * Nintendo is considering calling the console “Stream”, but this is one of several possible names.

Please keep in mind that these are rumors and not facts.  This information could change, or just be confirmed wrong, at any time.  For now, however, enjoy the rumors – but please keep things in perspective.

Wii 2 is coming, admits Miyamoto

Nintendo development legend Shigeru Miyamoto has admitted that a successor to the Wii is in production.

Speaking to Edge, the Mario creator was quizzed on Wii 2 and pressed for details.

"Don't ask!" he said. "Even when the Wii launched we were developing new hardware, work on 3DS had already started. It's a matter of when we announce it."

When asked if we can expect an announcement at E3 in June, Miyamoto said: "Please wait. Be patient until we decide."

We'd love to, Shigsy - but it's becoming increasingly difficult with all these rumours flying around.

Wii 2 has reportedly been named 'Project Cafe' at Nintendo, and features a custom IBM PowerPC CPU with three cores, a GPU from the ATI R700 family with a shader unit at version 4.1, and at least 512Mb of RAM.

CVG's sources have told us that the system will come with a controller that houses its own HD touch-screen. We expect an E3 reveal in June.

Miyamoto Reveals More On Mario 3DS

Combination of Galaxy and Mario 64; raccoon suit confirmed; “coming this year.”

Shigeru Miyamoto has described the upcoming Super Mario 3DS as a cross between Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario 64, and said that the eagerly anticipated title will be out this year.

Speaking in London today, Miyamoto told us: “It’s a combination of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario on N64. It won’t convey the message if I talk to you today, but if you play it at E3 that will give you more understanding of what I’m talking about.”

The man who created Mario also talked up the effect 3DS’s unique capabilities would have on gameplay, saying: “For example, the floors floating in space: in 2D it’s difficult to judge the distance, but in 3D it’s really easy.”

Most important of all was Miyamoto’s promise that the game is “completely original, and coming this year.”

Super Mario 3DS was announced by Nintendo president Satoru Iwata during his keynote address at GDC last month. All that was shown were four screenshots and a logo, with the eager-eyed spotting a tail attached to the letter O in Mario.

The tail also featured on the title screen of 1988 NES classic Super Mario Bros 3, prompting speculation that Super Mario 3DS would see the return of the much-loved raccoon suit.

“The tail you mentioned on the logo – it’s what you think it is,” Miyamoto said. “You probably know what’s going to happen using that character.”

Roll on E3, then. This year’s conference runs from June 7 to 9 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Nintendo is yet to announce the date of its annual E3 press conference.

Nintendo Drop Wii Prices on sale to just USD 170

Nintendo has not but announced any further cost cut on their Wii gaming console but some online stores have already started offering a discounted deal on it in the US market.

Wii was originally launched for USD 250 in the US marketplace. The price was later reduced to USD 200. The latest reports indicate that it may soon be officially on sale for just USD 170.

The launch of the console was spectacular. It was a smashing success for the organization nearly everywhere. It dominated both Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 for years in the US marketplace.

But points have changed in the recent years. Wii is no longer the hottest gaming console in the marketplace. Nintendo has already revealed that they are going to take about the successor at the upcoming E3 media event. A price cut makes a lot of sense at this point of time.

God of War 4 Coming in September 2012?

In what could appear like a ray of hope, the Spartans will soon see Kratos walking back to Athens with pride and honor. We are not sure if this is how it could actually be but a set of rumors has unleashed the bolts of our creative lab. According to a post on CVG, the next chapter in the God of War series is being crafted and will possibly hit stores in September 2012.

It has been revealed that the buzz stemmed out from the unofficial PlayStation magazine dubbed PSM3. Reportedly, a CV appeared online sometime last month with reference to a ‘God of war 4 cinematic test.’ The animator to whom the CV is credited has denied any allegiance of the same with Sony’s popular action-adventure franchise. However, the magazine revealed that another source has allegedly confirmed that a new God of War installment is on its way.

Well, those who have been wondering about the precise nature of these rumors can look at SCE Santa Monica studio’s John Hight January 2010 revelation which stated that ‘God of War III would not be the end of the series.’ The director of product development then elucidated that the franchise will not cease after the release of the third chapter.

We’ve not yet heard from either SCE Santa Monica or Ready At Dawn as to whether the next God of War chapter is currently in the pipeline.

No More Heroes Red Zone come with "Forbidden Mode"

Let's try this again, they said. It certainly looks like a good HD treatment of the original No More Heroes. I'm sold. You will be too when you look at the new box art and details on Red Zone, a follow-up of HMH: Heroes' Paradise.

Above you'll see a bit of the yummy PS3 (exclusive!) boxart. Check out the full image in our gallery. Speaking of yummy, this game is rated 18-and-up in Japan, says Andriasang. Maybe that has something to with the included product code for "Silvia's 18 Forbidden Pack." Interested? It has a "Forbidden View Mode" that lets you view all characters with a free camera. Like this. The pack also adds four Beam Katanas and four bike colors.

The box says that there's a new Boss Battle Mode in Red Zone, and it's compatible with network rankings. There's 10 new missions, five bosses from No More Heroes 2, and PlayStation Move compatibility. Sounds like a winner to me!

Japan gets No More Heroes: Red Zone for the bargain price of 3,990 yen (about $48).

Will Nintendo announce the 'Wii 2' at E3 in June?

Gamers and Nintendo fans across the globe are squeeing with giddiness over a crop of rumors that have exploded onto the scene in the last week: Multiple gaming news outlets have reported that Nintendo will reveal its successor to the motion-sensing money-maker, Wii, at E3 this June.

But wait! Didn’t Reggie Fils-Aime, President of Nintendo of America, say the Wii would have to sell more units before new hardware would be announced? Didn’t Nintendo say they wanted to capitalize even more on their new expanded audience of “casual gamers” before setting the Wii out to pasture? Didn’t they just release their new handheld console? And doesn’t sorry seem to be the hardest word?!

Right on all counts, but here’s what the interwebs are saying about Nintendo’s upcoming home console, supposedly code-named “Project Cafe.” All aboard the Hearsay Express:

–The new controller will include a six-inch screen that will stream game images from the console to the controller, like a “mini-television.”
–The console will be capable of running games at “HD resolutions,” making the device stiffer competition for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
–It will be backwards compatible with Wii games.

Many think the writing is on the wall for a new console announcement: It’s been five years since Wii’s launch, and traditionally, Nintendo has spaced their home consoles out in five-year intervals. Wii sales have also dipped, and Engadget reports that the system may see a price cut in order to move as many units off the market as possible in coming months. Mario creator and Nintendo gaming guru Shigeru Miyamoto addressed the rumors in an interview with French gaming outlet, Gameblog.fr, citing that Nintendo products typically do need five years in R&D before becoming ripe for the picking, but otherwise playing coy whether all these rumors have any truth to them at all. A Nintendo rep told EW, meanwhile, that the company “has not made any announcements pertaining to a new console,” and they would not comment “on rumors or speculation.”

Indeed, as enticing, widely-reported, and heavily hinted-at as they may be, they’re still just rumors. But if Nintendo were to announce the “Wii 2″ this June, would you do a double-jump power-up of excitement?
